I ended up having to travel for business this week. First to Chicago and then on to Cleveland and back. It was HOT, HOT, HOT in the midwest. It never ceases to amaze me how hard heat and humidity is to run through after you have become used to cooler, dry weather. You end up fighting the conditions more than fighting yourself. Even at 4 in the morning east coast time (yes, I was running at 1 a.m. Pacific time) it was in the mid 70s with nearly 100% humidity. Yuck. In spite of the nasty weather and bad time zone adjustment I kept up the training.
I was glad to return to the west coast and some more favorable weather. I was happy to open my door and see a pile of boxes for me when I got home! It was just like Christmas!!! There was a new shipment of Newton's for my next 2,000 miles of training and a box with 3 new pairs of New Balance Running Shorts.
And then, a surprise box from CLIF. I had gotten in contact with them to see if my adventure was worthy enough for them to consider some sort of sponsorship. They were polite in telling me a run across the country was not big enough for them to consider sponsorship but they would send me a little something. I opened the box and was delighted to see a big mix of CLIF Bars and Shot Bloks...enough for a few weeks of effort. Thanks CLIF!
Saturday, I did 80 miles on the bike and this morning 2 miles in the pool. I am 6 weeks out from Ironman Louisville (http://www.ironmanlouisville.com/) and am focusing hard on bringing my cycling and swimming closer into line. No worries on the run as I obviously have built an amazing base of run miles for going into an Ironman race.
I will be doing a new website sometime in September that will be more focussed on the run. I have been a bit lax in my planning, searching for sponsorships and the like for the adventure. I had marked the Ironman race as the "lets get busy" date in my head. It is starting to get very real for me as the days tick off the calander.
Have a great week!
