Another new team member....

Getting the best nutrition advice as I put my body through the tortures of this adventure is of critical importance to me.  As I mentioned previously, I will likely burn through 10,000 calories a day on the journey.  Improving my hydration strategies are additionally vital to my being successful.  I was talking with Dr. D a few weeks ago and told him that hydration was perhaps the biggest worry I have.  We will probably continue to do research on that one!

To give me advice and help on the nutrition side, I am happy to say I found a resource.  Her name is Joanna Chodorowska, owner of Nutrition in Motion based out of Philadelphia (booooo Phillies, go Giants!).  Joanna has worked with dozens of endurance athletes including a RAAM participant (Ride Across America bicycle race) and several Ironman Triathletes.  She and I connected last week and I liked a lot of what she said about a number of subjects.  She also was not phased by my vegetarian dietary choice...which I expected to hear push back from anyone I talked to.

So, I am going to be working with her over the next 6 months to refine my diet to help with energy, recovery and other symptoms.   I will let you know how it goes!

I am looking forward to it!

  2. Melanie...

Thanks! Your mom is a big help.

My run is 2,500 miles in all. I am going to run 50 miles a day for about 50 days. It is not a world record I don't think. There was a guy a few years ago who ran 3,000 miles in 54 days.

Thanks for reading my blog and LISTEN to your mom...she is smart!
